| Q. | What is RON? |
| A. | RON stands for Research Octane Number. It determines a petrol’s ‘anti knock’ quality or resistance to pre-ignition or detonation as it burns in the combustion chamber. |
| Q. | What is engine knocking? |
| A. | Knocking is an abnormal combustion and happens when fuel combusts prematurely before ignition. Prolonged or heavy engine knocking is damaging to the engine. It also indicates a need for higher octane fuel. |
| Q. | Is RON 95 suitable for my car? |
| A. | Most vehicles can use RON 95 fuels. However, it is best to refer to your car’s manual or the back of the petrol tank lid of your car for the recommended octane rating. Alternatively, you could also check with your vehicle manufacturer or with an authorized vehicle distributor. |
| Q. | What is the minimum RON for my car? |
| A. | Your vehicle manufacturer should specify the minimum octane level fuel recommendation. This information is usually provided in your car manual or the back of the petrol tank lid of your car. |
| Q. | Can I mix different octane fuel grades? |
| A. | Yes. However, you should ensure that the fuel meets or exceeds the minimum RON required by your car engine. |
| Q. | Can a higher octane fuel give me more power? |
| A. | If you are already using the recommended octane fuel, you will not obtain added power from higher octane level. |
| Q. | Does a lower octane fuel increase engine wear? |
| A. | Not if you are meeting the octane requirement of the engine. |
| Q. | How is PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 different from PETRONAS PRIMAX 3 fuel? |
| A. | PETRONAS PRIMAX 3 is PETRONAS’ premium grade of unleaded motor gasoline that has an octane rating of 97. Our new PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 fuel brings to the market a RON 95 premium fuel option that meets the demand for greater fuel economy and efficiency. |
